Abstract
The paper describes three computer techniques for the analysis of the behaviour under load of masonry arch bridges. These techniques involve: (1) a "mechanism" or "plastic" solution, (2) simple one-dimensional finite elements and (3) a complex "two-dimensional" finite element procedure. Following comparisons with full-scale experimental results, the paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the three different techniques.
