Abstract
A pavement system consisting of an aggregate base course stabilized with fly ash and resting on a subgrade soil is analyzed using the nonlinear finite element method. Both the beam (one-dimensional) and the slab (two-dimensional) idealization are employed and for various base thicknesses and wheel loads the deflections are computed. Results are presented in a graphical form that can be used for selecting a suitable base and pavement thickness for a given subgrade soil as measured by the modulus of subgrade reaction.
