Abstract
Dynamic Relaxation approximate method combined with finite difference
discretisation technique is used to obtain an elastic large deflection solution
for Mindlin sectorial plates subjected to a uniformly distributed load. In this
paper only the comparison results for the small deflection solution is
presented. Both simply supported and clamped edge constraints are considered for
plates with sector angles of 60, 90, 120 and 180 degrees. Since only the small
deflection solution is presented, therefore, deflection and stress couple
results are graphically presented and compared with two exact and one
approximate independent sources. Because of the unavailability of thick
isotropic sector plate results in the literature, the authors could only compare
the thin plate results. Although, there was one paper in the literature but
that considered the flexure of laminar orthotropic sector plates and the results
were unsuitable for comparison purposes here. The present results are in good
agreement with the other reported results for thin plates.
