Abstract
In this paper we describe the current and upcoming trends, challenges and opportunities in High Performance Computing. We discuss the end of Moore’s law, its effect on HPC architectures and the already visible and potential implications on hardware development. As a result of this the focus of attention will shift from hardware to software and algorithms. This will cover programming models, power efficiency as well as mathematical models. The impact of data on HPC is another important point. We analyse the influence of different big data and data analytics fields and show how they might change High Performance Computing in future.
