Abstract
The design of major buildings involves large numbers of people exchanging information and making decisions. The management of this process has hitherto been largely based on experience. Network models to aid management are feasible but unwieldy. Recent advances in computer support environments for the related field of project management have the potential to be further developed to support design management. A particular system, PACES is described and a proposal for an integrated computer support environment for the management of the design of major building projects is outlined.
