Summary
In this paper, a theoretical method is proposed for a health status dynamic evaluation method for bridge substructures based on model updating and an optimization algorithm. Damage in piers can be located and quantitatively identified with the measured mode shapes and nature frequencies as input data. A model pier is erected in the laboratory in which foundation damage is simulated by changing the base constraint springs and multiple mass units are used to simulate the superstructure mass. The model is mainly used to simulate the railway low-height piers. The analysis results indicate that the theoretical values are in agreement with the ones from the evaluation, which proves the accuracy and reliability of the method for health status evaluation of piers.
