Summary
This paper specifies the main types of track switching devices (AMV) used in Brazil and the risk of railway accidents in this equipment. It enables a train to do the crossing or allow the passage of another, in the same direction or in the opposite direction in case of a railway composed of simple way. This AMV element also has several characteristics in a constructive way that determines their form of installation, maintenance and the limiting speed of the composition to transpose this region and it is high risk of accidents due to lack of maintenance or premature wear. The gate marks the beginning of the shift, and determines whether or not the composition will be diverted. Currently the two devices used in Brazil are: (1) the AMV-A produced by the rules of the AREMA and (2) the AMV-U, produced by standards of the UIC. Both are used and recognized by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). The basic difference between the AMV-A and the AMV-U is the description of the geometric layout as the AMV-A rolling stock that suffers a change of direction in two places and always intersecting with respect to the initial direction of the AMV since the AMV-U direction only suffers a change and so follows with the initial radius until the end of the AMV. Based on these two main types of AMV, the paper discusses the constructive characteristics and the wear of the equipment and thus ensures the train moves safely and comfortably for the users.
