Summary
In this paper, we investigated the arcing and electrical contact of a pantograph catenary system, based on a laboratory simulation system. The temperature rise of the carbon strip due to the multiple physical effects, including joule heat, arcing and friction working, was recorded using an infrared thermometer. Optical emission spectra of the pantograph arcing were obtained using a compact spectrometer, and distinguished with the help of the available atomic database. Finally, the flow field distribution of the pantograph arcing were studied based on a Moire deflectometry technique. The results of the work, presented in this paper, are helpful for a better understanding of the pantograph arcing phenomena.
