Abstract
This paper describes a knowledge-based safety advisor system for demolition work. The task area is introduced by considering the explosive demolition of brick chimneys as an example, though the Safety Advisor for the Demolition Industry (SADI) project is aimed at giving safety advice for a wide variety of structure types and demolition methods.

The system development work is then discussed, which highlights the features of the SADI system, and shows how the user requirements and the domain information have affected the design of the system and its user interface.
