Keywords: pantograph arc, harmonics, over-voltage, high speed railway.

Summary
A pantograph arc frequently occurs on high speed railways. It induces over-voltage and high frequency harmonics in the traction system. That is a threat for the safety of the high speed Railway. In the article, characteristics for switch arc model have been analyzed. A model for pantograph arcing has been established. The pantograph arcing model has been included into a traction system model. Over-voltage and harmonics have been studied using the model. The relationship between over-voltage amplitude and phase when the arc occurs has been analyzed. The distortion factor for harmonics has also been analyzed. The results give a theory support to reform the current collection between pantograph and contact line.
