Abstract
A computer based static analysis of horizontally curved I-girder-slab type bridge deck has been developed using finite difference method. The deck is idealized as a curved flat plate supported by a number of flexible I-girders whose flexural and torsional properties are known. The Levy-type solution permits generation of nodal equilibrium equations only at the nodes along the central radial line of the deck. The girder reactive forces at each girder location are taken into account in the difference equations. The proposed method is applied to a number of decks t o objectively study the influence of torsional stiffness of I-girders in the analysis. Results show that torsional stiffness has negligible influence in the analysis of a deck with radius larger than 150 m.
