Summary
In this paper, the authors present a new methodology for evaluating the stresses, both in concrete and in the tensioned steel bars of a rectangular section of a reinforced concrete beam subjected to bending. This evaluation, is based on the principle that straight sections remain straight after deformation. In this context, the stress depends on the knowledge of the curvature of the section and of the position of the neutral axis. These parameters are evaluated computationally using a moment-curvature programme. This model has been developed with the intention of considering aspects such as the confinement of the compressed concrete or the stiffening effect. In order to validate the model, the results are compared with experimental results evaluated by means of moment-curvature curves.
