Abstract
The background to the multiple cell method for the determination of ground water flow is presented. It is seen that the approach, although mathematically less rigourous than the finite difference and finite element methods, provides a practical solution to ground water flow problems and that it can readily be adapted to handle quality problems as well. Furthermore it is the only method which is sufficiently undemanding in terms of core storage to enable it to be mounted on a microcomputer.
