Abstract
Research into the development of an understanding of structural behaviour in recently graduated students of civil engineering shows a deficiency in a qualitative grasp of the physical response of structural systems.

A suite of software for micro-computers has been developed to allow students to examine the effects of loads on a range of structures. Included is a program which tests the student's understanding interactively.
