Abstract
Although formwork productivity has been measured for many years, and productivity indices have been established and compiled, accuracy in many cases has been questioned. Furthermore, the design of formwork has varied from using intuitive, semi-empirical methods to more rational analytical methods. Today, it is possible to use a general purpose package program in the design and optimization of formwork.

More refined databases for productivity indices can now be created. Sophisticated measurement tools, such as time-lapse photography, and microcomputers can more accurately measure and considerably reduce the time consuming effort in the compilation and dissemination of data. Refinements and improvements in the accuracy of productivity data will enable productivity and costs to be determined more accurately and, when linked to an integrated package design program, improve the economical design of concrete formwork.
