Abstract
Structural assessment and safety analysis of civil engineering structures is an essential element of the construction industry and the identification and verification of numerical finite element models is required for these tasks. However, with current implementations the identification of coarse linear finite-element models of relatively simple structures is only possible.

This paper presents on-going work being carried out in the HISTRIDE project, an EC Esprit funded project on the development and validation of a high performance structure identification environment. This environment exploits High Performance Computing (HPC) and structure identification best practices, with the aim of making structure identification available to the civil engineering community.
