Abstract
This article outlines the design of a general purpose Finite Element package for parallel computers, called ScaFiEP. ScaFiEP is an object-oriented software library that can be used to solve linear and non-linear engineering problems. To demonstrate its capabilities, ScaFiEP was used to solve a non-linear damage mechanics problem on a cluster of workstations and on a Cray T3E.
