Abstract
A general procedure for determining equivalent beam properties for beam-like lattice trusses is presented. This method is based on energy equivalence and its main features are the use of piecewise linear functions for representing the displacements, and the definition of continuum parameters by their average values over the continuum cell. This enables to show that the calculation of the reduced equivalent stiffness matrix can be carried out rigourously, taking the lattice periodicity into account. However, approximate methods are also proposed. The procedure is applied to examples for planar lattice trusses in static analysis.
