Abstract
This paper describes a multigrid algorithm based on adaptive generation of the sequence of meshes required by the process. Nonuniform discretization is obtained by finer meshes confined to a progressively smaller subdomain. The meshes are generated through bisection refinement according to a local error indicator. A suitable dynamic data structure for C implementations and a technique for irregular node detection which leaves the multigrid procedures unvaried (transfer, residual computation, assembly on levels) are developed for the implementation of these multigrid solvers. Several numerical examples with bilinear and HC finite elements are presented.
