Abstract
Authors present a general process for some foundations design. The different aspects of this activity are analysed. Different points for which an expert system could be used are exhibited. They introduce an expert knowledge based system for the design of shallow foundations with the pressuremeter method. It can assists the geotechnical engineers throughout the design process for: (1) the planning of a site investigation (2) the synthesis of in situ tests results and (3) the selection of admissible foundations
