Abstract
Civil Engineering education, like all advanced professional education, involves teaching not only the fundamental principles of practice but also utilization of evolving technology. Computers and associated software have had the biggest impact on civil engineering practice during the last two decades. This impact is expected to grow and become more pervasive in the immediate future. The present computer use in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University which has resulted because of developments in computer technology is discussed herein. Some aspects of future developments, directions and problems related to computer use in civil engineering education and practice are also discussed.
