Abstract
The Boundary Element (BE) formulation for axisymmetric gravitational (self-weight) problems is presented. Unlike the Finite Element method, the derivation of the axisymmetric BE solutions requires a complex integration of the three-dimensional solutions resulting in elliptic integrals for which accurate numerical schemes must be used. The analytical formulation and numerical implementation of the BE method are presented, followed by some practical applications. The solution accuracy is demonstrated by comparing the BE solutions to other analytical and numerical solutions.
