Abstract
It is proposed to install a single loading arm on an existing jetty berth with a provision for two more additional arms in the future. As an alternative to major modifications to the existing deck slab, strength assessment of the slab has been done. Steel grillage spreader has been used to spread the loading arm loads. The applied forces/moment distribution in the slab has been determined by using finite element analysis. The results thus obtained have been compared with the strength of the existing slab obtained by using BS 8110.
