Abstract
Knowledge of traffic volume characteristics is important in evaluating existing traffic conditions as well as for forecasting future traffic trends. This paper presents TRAF, an integrated computer-aided system for the analysis of hourly traffic volume data. TRAF has been recently developed and is currently used to analyse the available data bases and provide reliable traffic volume patterns for the main road axis Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki, enabling better planning, design and management. Application issues within the Hellenic Ministry of Public Works, conclusions derived and proposals for effective implementation are also discussed.
