Abstract
The paper presents strategies and models for the simulation of interactions of the permanent type between fluids and structures. These are fully implemented in the transient dynamic finite element computer code PLEXIS-3C. Emphasis is put on an algorithm which fully automatizes the set up of appropriate coupling conditions between the fluid domain, represented by an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian description (ALE) and a deformable structure of possibly complex shape. Large motions and large deformations of the structure are taken into account. Realistic examples are proposed showing that the user effort in discretizing the problem is reduced to a bare minimum, thereby eliminating also most of the common sources of input errors.
