Abstract
There are a large number of masonry arch bridges throughout the country and authorities are often called upon to make a rapid assessment of the load carrying capacity for some abnormal loading. This paper describes the development of programs which can be used to assist with such assessment.

The programs follow the theoretical approach of the 'mechanism' and funiculur polygon methods of analysis and descriptions are given of the basic assumptions.

Examples of the use of the programs and comparisons with the results obtained by other methods, both theoretical and practical, are made.
