Abstract
This paper describes some analysis and computer aided design behavioral studies performed on a variety of one way cable supported spaceframe roof structures under the predominant downward gravity 1oadings. A cable stayed overhead support system will generally impose inclined concentrated loads onto a spaceframe roof and cause very large member loads in a very limited number of spaceframe roof members. The examples considered are where the roof is supported by a series of overhead cable stays spanning in one direction only. This arrangement utilizes the in-plane shear stiffness of the roof to transmit lateral wind loads to external supports. A member selection procedure based on a generic code and capacity tables is incorporated into the non-linear large displacement analysis to handle the computer aided member design and selection of the spaceframe components.
